The Leavey School of Business is proud to announce the launch of a new undergraduate major in Business Analytics—an exciting expansion of a program that has already drawn strong interest as a minor.

Housed in the Information Systems and Analytics (ISA) department, the major formalizes Leavey’s long-standing commitment to preparing students to lead in a data-driven economy. It also builds on the School’s national reputation for excellence in analytics education—Leavey’s Master’s program in Business Analytics is currently ranked #11 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.

“This major represents the next evolution of our commitment to preparing students for a data-driven future,” said Dean Ed Grier. “It’s a natural extension of the analytical rigor that has long defined Leavey’s curriculum.”

The Business Analytics major is designed for students interested in the intersection of data governance, analytics, and operational decision-making. Coursework emphasizes technical proficiency and strategic thinking, with students learning to apply data mining, statistical modeling, predictive analytics, prescriptive analytics, and AI-aided decision-making to real-world business challenges.

“This is about more than data,” said Professor Gangshu (George) Cai, ISA department co-chair, who led the development of the new Business Analytics major. “We’re giving students the tools to generate insights, solve problems, and make responsible, evidence-based decisions—skills that are in high demand across every industry.”

Students will take foundational courses in statistics, data analytics, revenue analytics, and advanced business analytics, and can choose from electives in areas such as business intelligence, marketing analytics, financial modeling, supply chain analytics, and data warehousing. New advanced courses—Advanced Business Analytics, Revenue Management and Analytics, and Big Data Analytics—are also on the horizon.

Graduates will be well-prepared for careers in fields such as machine learning, business analytics, supply chain management, data architecture, and cross-disciplinary analytics roles. With Leavey’s Silicon Valley connections and commitment to experiential learning, the program provides a powerful launchpad into today’s most data-intensive industries.

Stay tuned—over the next few weeks the ISA department will be sharing more exciting details about the new Business Analytics major on their website. It’s just the beginning of a dynamic new chapter at Leavey!
